FATCAT BIKE FAQS

What type of engine is in a FatCat?

The engine inside our FatCats are impressive clones of the classic Honda GX200 engines, renowned for their long-lasting reliability.

There's a wonderful compatibility between the Honda engines and ours, which means sourcing spare parts like air filters, engine oil, or spark plugs is a breeze – just visit your local small engine shop or workshop.

These engines are 4-strokes, think of them as the Australian counterparts to the Honda GX200, featuring a robust 212cc powerhouse. Simply fill them up with unleaded fuel, and you're good to go! With a generous 3.5-liter fuel tank, you can enjoy a solid 3-4 hours of uninterrupted riding fun!

Absolutely! These bikes come with an automatic transmission. When at idle, there's no drive engaged, but as you twist the throttle, they smoothly spring into action.

Does the FatCat have gears?

Absolutely not! Our bikes come equipped with a fantastic fully automatic one-speed gearbox, which makes shredding on them an absolute breeze!

What controls do FatCat Mini Bikes have?

All of the controls are conveniently located on the handlebars, making it a breeze to ride and perfect for riders of any skill level.

On the left side, you'll find the rear brake lever and the headlight switch. On the right side, you'll see the twist throttle, front brake lever, and the engine stop switch.

The FatCat features both front and rear hydraulic disc brakes, with no foot brake, just the easy-to-use brake levers on the handlebars.

What kind of fuel does it require?

It's simple – just fill it up with regular unleaded fuel, and you're all set to hit the road. Speaking of fuel, the FatCat features an ample 3.5-liter tank, providing you with a sturdy 3-4 hours of uninterrupted riding time.

How long is the run time?

The FatCat boasts a generous 3.5-liter tank, giving you a solid 3-4 hours of riding time.

What's the top speed of a FatCat?

The top speed you can reach with a FatCat is 55km/h. It's important to note that FatCats aren't designed for blazing speed; they're crafted to take you anywhere you want to go.

Just a quick note on the top speed: Typically, you can expect around 55km/h on firmer surfaces. However, it might be a tad lower when you're off-road, given the different terrain. But fear not, there's a little trick you can use to rev things up a bit more. There's a speed limiter ring in the CVT that can be removed, allowing for a higher top speed.

What are the measurements of a FatCat Mini Bike?

The bike's overall dimensions are as follows: 1600mm in length, 800mm in width, and 900mm in height.

However, it's worth mentioning that some resourceful FatCat owners have found a way to reduce the height for transport. They simply undo the handlebar clamps, rotate the handlebars down, and the height can be reduced to 800mm.

In terms of seating, the seat height at its lowest point is 625mm, and the total length of the bike is 1.6 meters

How much do FatCats weigh?

FatCats weigh in at approximately 75kg, which makes it a breeze to load one onto the tray of a ute all on your own.

Compared to a standard motorbike, they're significantly lighter, ensuring you can effortlessly navigate the bush, conquer sandy terrains, or master your farm adventures like a true boss!

Do I need to run the engine in first?

Not to worry at all when it comes to getting your bike settled in – taking it easy and steady is the key!

After a few hours of engine run time, simply perform a straightforward oil change. Your bike should come with some oil already, but for any refills, you can find genuine Honda oil at Bunnings or your local lawn mower shop. You'll need approximately 600ml of that high-quality oil to top it up. When refilling, ensure the bike is in an upright position and pour the oil until it's just about to overflow from the filler plug

What types of screws and bolts are used in FatCat?

The majority of the bolts on our bikes are of grade 8.8 quality, and we use screws that adhere to the Japanese Industry Standard (JIS)!

Now, JIS may sound fancy, but it's actually a mark of quality that's been traditionally employed in high-quality Japanese bikes.

Is the FatCat a dependable workhorse?

You bet! Many of our amazing customers happen to be hardworking farmers.

When it comes to Aussie terrain and the need for reliable 4-wheeler bikes, the choice becomes crystal clear. While the bigger brands may offer pricey buggies, we provide the ideal solution. Our top-of-the-line 212cc bikes, featuring Honda clone engines and robust, rugged wheels, are a perfect match.

They're exactly what you need to zip around the farm and easily check out what's happening!

How much noise do FatCats make?

during easygoing rides, our bikes purr along at a peaceful 72 decibels. But when you kick it into high gear and rev them up to full throttle, they'll unleash a spirited 85 decibels.

Compared to typical 2-stroke engines, they're considerably quieter and won't create nearly as much noise as a lawnmower. Depending on the specific model you have, they might be a tad louder than some quad bikes, but they generally keep things on the quieter side!

Does the FatCat feature rear suspension?

FatCat Mini Bikes may not come with rear suspension, but let us tell you, those robust chunky wheels and that comfy seat do an excellent job of soaking up bumps. You'll be pleasantly surprised by how smooth and enjoyable the ride is!

What colour does the FatCat come in?

Our signature model, the FC-212, comes standard in sleek black with the black sticker kit. It's a classic look that's ready to roll right out of the gate.

But here's where the fun really begins – you can give your FatCat a personal touch with our Coloured Sticker Kits! We offer a splendid palette of 12 awesome colours for you to pick from. Whether you're into bold and bright or something more subtle, there's a colour waiting just for you.

So, go ahead and add your own unique twist to your FatCat Mini Bike. It's all about making it truly yours!

How does the CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) work in the FatCat Mini Bike?

Here's the breakdown: At idle, the front pulley on the crankshaft doesn't engage the belt. However, as you rev up the engine, something magical happens. The pulley starts to squeeze in on the belt, gradually transferring power. This pulley is cleverly tapered, so as the revs increase, it squeezes in even more, causing the belt to ride up on the pulley. This, in turn, alters the gearing.

But wait, there's more! Simultaneously, the spring-loaded rear pulley swings open, allowing the belt to descend into the smaller diameter section of the pulley.

So, what does all this mean for your ride? Well, during takeoff, you get a 2.7:1 reduction, giving you that extra oomph. And when you're cruising at full speed, it switches to a 0.9:1 overdrive, so you can zip along smoothly. It's like having a built-in, infinitely adjustable gearbox that optimizes your performance at every twist of the throttle. Cool, right?

Does the FatCat have an oil filter?

There is no oil filter on these engines.

Are you able to put in a larger engine or do engine modifications to get the torque and power increased?

We totally understand that sometimes you need a bit more torque and power to conquer those off-road adventures like a champ!

In terms of fitting larger engines or engine modifications, it's definitely possible, but it usually involves some custom work to get it just right. People over in the USA (the American version of a FatCat) have done some cool engine upgrades on our FatCat bikes but this is not something we have done ourselves. Here's the link to the epic video they made: https://youtu.be/u5C0c2CCgB4

But hey, before you dive headfirst into engine mods, we'd recommend checking out some of the awesome aftermarket upgrades we have available. They can help you achieve that extra oomph you're looking for without diving too deep into custom work. We've been sharing some exciting stuff on our Instagram and Facebook, so head on over to our Instagram page at https://www.instagram.com/fatcat_minibikes_australia/ for the latest updates and inspiration.

FATCAT RIDER FAQS

Who can ride a FatCat?

Our bikes are designed to provide an absolute blast for riders of all ages and experience levels, from the littlest ones to the most seasoned enthusiasts.

Featuring a spacious and comfortable saddle, even those who are new to biking can easily get on board and enjoy the ride. Thanks to the convenient automatic gearbox, there's no need to worry about shifting gears – making it a piece of cake for riders of any skill level.

What's more, our smart throttle limiter screw is a breeze to adjust, catering to both cautious beginners and eager novices alike. Plus, these bikes are automatic, so when you're not twisting that throttle, they're just hanging out. But give it a little twist, and you'll feel the thrill of cruising in no time!

Experience the joy of riding with FatCat Mini Bikes – where fun, comfort, and excitement come together for everyone!

Is there a rider weight limit?

These bikes are 'MINI' when it comes to their size, but they can handle a 'MAXI' load! Officially, they're rated for riders up to 100kg, but no need to fret if you tip the scales a bit higher.

Many riders have gone beyond that limit without any major issues. However, it's worth mentioning that exceeding 100kg might cause the transmission belt to wear out a bit faster.

For those who might be on the larger side, we've got a straightforward modification that can make a significant difference. You can switch out the rear sprocket with one of our 72-tooth sprockets. This simple tweak gears the bike down by approximately 25%, giving you more torque while slightly reducing the top speed from around 55km/h to approximately 40km/h.

Many of our riders have opted for this sprocket, especially those who frequently tackle sandy terrains. They find the extra torque to be quite beneficial without missing the top speed too much. It's a fantastic way to enhance your overall riding experience!

Are FatCat Mini Bikes suitable for kids?

Absolutely! We've got your young and aspiring riders covered.

Our bikes come equipped with a nifty feature called the throttle limiting screw, designed with safety in mind. Straight out of the factory, this throttle screw is typically set to about half throttle, offering a balanced and secure riding experience.

But here's where it gets exciting: You have the power to fine-tune your ride. Need that maximum power kick? Simply wind the throttle screw out, and you'll unleash an exhilarating ride. Looking for a more controlled acceleration? Just wind it in, and it'll limit the throttle as you need.

Picture it this way: Winding the screw in reduces the throttle's range of motion, while winding it out offers more throttle response. It's all about tailoring your ride to match your skill level and preferences.

So, rest assured, your FatCat Mini Bike is ready to grow with your young riders while keeping safety front and centre!

Can I get road registration for FatCats?

No, FatCats are strictly designed for off-road use and are not intended for public road use.

Where can you legally ride a FatCat?

While you can't register these awesome machines for on-road use in Australia, there's still a world of adventure awaiting you! So, where can you let the FatCat roam freely and legally?

The good news is that you've got plenty of options! FatCats are perfect for tearing it up on private property, such as farms or motorbike club tracks. Plus, our vast country boasts some fantastic off-road areas just waiting for you to explore!

Because Australia offers such a vast playground with countless amazing spots, we can't possibly know them all. Therefore, we recommend reaching out to your local council to discover the best places to rev that engine in your area. They'll have the inside scoop on the coolest spots and any specific rules you should be aware of, as these can vary from state to state.

Do I need a drivers license to ride a FatCat?

No license is required because FatCats are an off road only bike (cannot be road registered).

Can I get recreational rego in Victoria?

We've been hard at work developing a comprehensive kit that will include everything you need for rec rego in Victoria. This kit will even feature plug-and-play wiring for tail lights and a horn, making the registration process a breeze.

While we can't provide the exact release date just yet, you can expect these kits to be available on our website within the next few months. Keep a close eye on our website for updates - we promise it will be worth the wait!

Regarding the current status of rec rego, our information suggests that it is indeed possible in specific areas (you would have to check with your local council). However, we want to be absolutely certain before giving you a guarantee. Once we've completed the kit and successfully registered a FatCat in Victoria, we'll have all the concrete details you need.

Feel free to touch base with us in about a month or so, and we'll have a clearer picture to share with you. Your patience and understanding are greatly appreciated!

FATCAT TERRAIN FAQS

Can the FatCat handle sandy terrain?

Absolutely, without a doubt! The FatCat's chunky wheels and sturdy tyres are designed for conquering various terrains.

Specifically, when it comes to sand, those fat tyres are a real game-changer. They'll power through smaller or less steep sand dunes with ease. Now, tackling those massive sand dunes? Well, that's a challenge for even the most daring adventurers!

For sandy escapades, we've got some pro tips to enhance your experience. Here's the scoop:

  1. Upgrade Your Sprocket: Consider switching to one of our larger rear sprockets, which gears down the bike by around 25% and boosts torque. This makes maneuvering on sand a breeze.
  2. Extend Your Chain: To accommodate the larger sprockets, you'll need a longer chain. Not to worry, we've got two suitable options on our website. Just be prepared to remove a few links to get that perfect fit.
  3. Transmission Garter Springs: For smoother rides at lower speeds and improved sand performance, we recommend our optional springs. They engage the drive at lower RPMs, giving you more control in sandy conditions, all without sacrificing top-end power.

So there you have it! With these tweaks and your FatCat's adventurous spirit, you'll be sand-ready and set for an epic ride.

How well do FatCats handle slippery, muddy conditions?

When you're facing the muck and mire, our chunky tyres can be a game-changer.

Here's the lowdown: While the standard tyres have a tread depth of around 8mm, our chunky tires take it up a notch with a generous 16mm depth and square edges on the lugs. This means you'll get maximum traction in those challenging conditions.

In fact, for those slippery, muddy adventures, our A003 tires might be your best bet. They're designed to tackle the toughest terrain and keep you in control. Upgrade your tyres, and let your FatCat take on the mud with confidence!

What type of tyres do FatCats come with?

All FatCats are equipped with standard V-patterned tyres, both in the front and rear, right out of the box.

These tyres are a great all-rounder for various terrains, but if you happen to find yourself in wet and muddy conditions, opting for chunky tyres might be a better choice.

Regrettably, we can't send a bike with different tyres pre-installed, but we can include additional tyres with your bike purchase. Some folks opt to get the chunky tyres along with their bike so they can swap them out when the original tyres wear down.

We also offer complete chunky tyre assemblies, including the wheel, disc brake, and sprocket, all ready to roll. You have your choice between the A-003 , A-051 or Steer tyres – it's as simple as that!

For more information on chunky tyre upgrades, check out our accessories page!

FATCAT MAINTENANCE FAQS

How do I service my FatCat Mini Bike?

Keeping your ride in top-notch condition is a breeze, much like maintaining your lawn!

  1. Change the oil after the first couple of hours of riding, and then every six months or so.
  2. Don't forget the basics, like applying lubricant and maintaining proper chain tension.
  3. The transmission belt deserves a little tender loving care too – give it a clean and apply fresh dry lube periodically.

Maintaining these bikes is a walk in the park! Just run through these quick checks before each ride:

  1. Ensure the tires are correctly inflated. Check the oil and fuel levels.
  2. Clean and lubricate the chain, and adjust the tension if necessary.

For more comprehensive information, be sure to consult the owner's manual.

What oil should you use for your FatCat?

Our bikes come pre-filled with oil in the engines, but we recommend thinking about an oil change after the initial few hours of riding.

For optimal performance, we suggest using high-quality oil – specifically, the genuine Honda 10W-30 API SJ variant. The engine can hold up to 600ml of oil, and you can easily find a litre of it at your local Bunnings.

Are spare parts readily available?

Certainly! We have a wide selection of spare parts on hand. If you require any, simply drop us an email at fun@fatcatbikes.com.au, and we'll be thrilled to assist you.

Don't forget to explore our Products page for additional options and detailed information!

And if you're in the mood to spruce up your ride, we've got you covered! Whether you're eyeing new wheels or stylish graphic kits, the possibilities are endless. Let's take your FatCat to the next level of awesomeness!

What type of lubricant should I use?

You have a few options when it comes to lubricants for your FatCat Mini Bike. While it's not strictly necessary, using a lubricant can be beneficial for ease of maintenance and rust prevention if exposed to water. One option is RP7, although it's worth noting that it may not provide long-lasting lubrication.

For the front brake caliper mounting bolts, it's a good idea to apply a small amount of low-strength Loctite (specifically Loctite 222 or a similar product).

When it comes to your bike chain, regular cleaning and lubrication are essential. We've found that many chain lubricants tend to attract dirt and sand, so instead, we recommend using products like RP7, CRC, or WD40. These not only lubricate the chain but also work well for cleaning it. Before heading out for a ride, give your chain a quick cleaning, apply the chosen lubricant, and ensure the chain tension is adjusted properly for optimal performance.

What's the best way to clean my FatCat?

Cleaning your FatCat is a breeze! To keep your mini bike looking its best, we suggest using a gentle hose spray or a bucket of water. Pair this with a soft brush or a sponge, and you're on the right track. In most cases, you won't even need detergent, unless the chain has flung a bit of lubricant.

Now, when it comes to cleaning, we'd like to give you a friendly tip: steer clear of high-pressure cleaning. Why, you ask? Well, because water has a sneaky way of finding its way into places it shouldn't, like your bike's bearings and electronics. However, feel free to go ahead and use high-pressure cleaning for your tyres – that's perfectly okay.

Are there any essential safety tips and cautions to ensure a thrilling and secure ride?

Cable Care: Make sure to route the cables and brake lines in a way that won't interfere with the bike's steering. We've included cable ties for this purpose. Pay special attention to securing the rear brake line to the frame to prevent it from catching on the front mudguard.

Engine Oil Check: Check if your engine already has oil; you might find it's good to go! In this case, you can disregard any assembly instructions or labels advising you to fill the oil.

Low Oil Sensor: Rest easy knowing there's a low oil sensor in place. It prevents the engine from starting if the oil level is too low or if the bike is leaning at an angle.

Oil Change Recommendation: We recommend changing the oil after the initial few hours of running time. It's a good practice to keep your engine running smoothly.

Throttle Control: Want to control your speed? No problem! There's a throttle limiting screw located under the air filter housing. It's typically set to about half throttle from the factory, but you can adjust it to your liking.

Tyre Pressure: Before you hit the road, check those tire pressures. We recommend a minimum of 10 psi, but feel free to adjust it based on rider weight and terrain, up to 15 psi. Keep in mind that excessively low pressures can cause the tire to unseat or develop slow leaks.

Chain Lubrication: Your chain comes with an anti-rust coating, but it's not a lubricant. Make sure toate the chain before riding. Don't worry if you don't have motorcycle chain lube; gear oil or engine oil will do the trick.

CVT Maintenance: For detailed information on CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) maintenance, please refer to the owner's manual. It's your go-to resource for keeping your FatCat in top shape.

With these safety tips in your toolkit, you're ready for a fantastic and secure riding experience!

What is the ideal tyre pressure?

Before you hit the road, check those tyre pressures. We recommend a minimum of 10 psi, but feel free to adjust it based on rider weight and terrain, up to 15 psi. Keep in mind that excessively low pressures can cause the tyre to unseat or develop slow leaks.

What kind of spark plug does the FatCat use?

The spark plug that powers up your FatCat is the NGK BPR6ES. It's the spark behind all the excitement!

Does the FatCat have auto transmission oil?

No transmission oil, the transmission works via a belt with two variable speed pulleys. The driven pulley does require occasional maintenance which is a clean and re-lube with graphite dry lube.

FATCAT ACCESSORIES FAQS

If I purchase accessories, will they be installed on my bike for me?

No, we're unable to send a bike with additional accessories pre-installed. However, we can include the accessories in the same shipment, so you have the freedom to customise your bike to your heart's desire. We're all about empowering our riders to personalise their bikes to reflect their unique style.

Are the tyres tubeless?

Yes- the tyres on our FatCat Mini Bikes are tubeless, providing you with a reliable and hassle-free riding experience.

I want to know more about the coloured graphic kits!

Get ready to add a splash of personality to your FatCat Mini Bike!

Our coloured sticker kits are proudly crafted and designed right here in Australia, thanks to a talented local graphics designer. They're built tough, with decal material specially tailored for outdoor adventures.

With a dazzling palette of 12 colors to choose from*, you can truly make your FatCat your own canvas.

Please note: These graphic stickers are sold separately, as your FatCat bike comes standard with genuine black stickers. To customize your ride, you'll simply remove the original stickers and replace them with your chosen graphics kit.

For a smooth application, be sure to clean the surface with isopropyl alcohol beforehand.

And here's some extra good news: Enjoy convenient shipping at just $10.60, or snag FREE shipping when you make a bike purchase. Get ready to ride in style!

Are the garter springs easy to install?

Absolutely! It's a straightforward process, but let's walk you through it step by step.

Here's what you'll need to do:

  1. First, remove the outer side of the cone pulley.
  2. Next, insert a screwdriver into the gap between the weights. Gently spread them apart to release them from the spindle.
  3. Once the weights are off, it's smooth sailing. You can easily lever the old springs off using a screwdriver, and then roll the new ones onto the spindle by hand.

As an extra tip, when you're reassembling, a tiny bit of low-strength Loctite on the crankshaft bolt can be a helpful touch to ensure everything stays in place.

Worth noting: the top speed won’t be affected by the lighter garter springs because the engine max rpm does not change, they will just engage at lower rpm.

I want more details about the aftermarket sprockets and chains!

Our larger sprockets are designed to gear down the bikes by approximately 25%. Why might this be handy, you ask? Well, if you plan to ride on sandy or softer terrains or if you're a bigger rider, these sprockets can be a game-changer. In fact, I've personally added a larger sprocket to my own bike because I prefer the extra torque over top speed. Keep in mind, though, that with these sprockets, your top speed will be reduced from around 55km/h to approximately 40km/h.

Now, when you make the switch to bigger sprockets, you'll need a longer chain to match. Here's the good news: All three of our chain options are long enough, and you'll actually need to remove a few links to get the perfect fit.

FATCAT HINTS AND TIPS FAQS

Is there a complete "how to assemble" video available?

YES! For your convenience, we've created a three-part YouTube video series that covers the entire assembly process from start to finish.

It's like having an expert right there with you to make assembly a breeze! Check it out on our YouTube Channel- FatCat Mini Bikes Australia.

Troubleshooting for a Non-Starting Bike

Let's get your FatCat back on the road! First things first, make sure you've got all the essentials covered:

  1. Check the fuel tap and choke - Ensure they're both in the 'on' position, and of course, confirm there's fuel in that tank.
  2. Once it fires up, keep it purring by leaving the choke on for about 30 seconds. While you're comfortably seated on your mini bike, give it a gentle twist of the throttle - just enough to keep it revving, but not too much to send you on an unplanned adventure.
  3. After it's had its warm-up with the choke, move that lever to the halfway mark and let it run for another 30 seconds.
  4. Now, it's time to set your mini beast free. Turn the choke off completely, and it should be ready to hit the road!

And don't forget, if you're looking for more troubleshooting tips, check out the handy guide in the owner's manual that came with your bike.

Oh, and one more thing - make sure that oil level is A-okay. With the bike level (no leaning on the stand), ensure that oil is sitting pretty at the right level. Low oil can be a real buzzkill for your engine. Keep us in the loop on how things go!

Having trouble with your headlight?

No worries, let's tackle it step by step.

First, make sure all three of the electrical plugs are securely connected. Once that's sorted, if you find that the switch on the left side of the handlebars isn't illuminating your light, chances are you've got a blown globe.

But don't fret! We're here to help. Contact us and we can promptly send you a replacement so you can get back to enjoying your well-lit rides

How to put the chain back on

Typically, a loose chain or a slightly misaligned rear wheel can be the culprits. Here's what to do:

First, take a look at the chain tension adjusters on both sides. You'll notice handy scribe marks on both sides to guide you. Make sure they're evenly adjusted. This ensures your wheel is running true and keeps that chain snug where it belongs.

With a quick adjustment, you'll have your chain back in action, and you'll be ready to hit the road on your FatCat adventure

If I make the back sprocket smaller will the FatCat be faster?

The answer is yes, it can indeed gear your bike up for more speed. But here's the trade-off: You'll sacrifice some of that low-end torque. And, if you go overboard and gear it up too much, it might struggle to reach its full rev potential.

So, there you have it! It's a bit of a balancing act between speed and torque.

How can I make the FatCat faster?

Let's rev up your options!

Step one is a cinch: Make sure the throttle limiting screw under the airbox is wound out all the way to enable full throttle. That's your passport to unleashing all the power your FatCat has to offer.

But if you're hungry for even more muscle, you're in luck! There's a treasure trove of engine upgrades available for these engines. Consider investing in a carburetor and exhaust upgrade – it's a dynamic duo that can truly make a noticeable difference in your speed and performance.

Do you have a FatCat community I can connect with?
